Webb7 feb. 2011 · the most recent trip we did was to the Sangree Froelicher memorial hut. It was built in 1998, but didn't become part of the hut system until 2003. it sits at 11,700 ft above sea level, and is about 6 miles from Leadville, but only a 3 mile hike in from the trail head, which was much shorter than our last trip up to Janet's. WebbThis is a really fun hike through the incredible San Isabel National Forest, along a well-loved trail which takes hikers out and up to the Sangree M. Froelicher hut. The trailhead can be found off to the side of the Interstate-70 and over Climax pass toward Leadville. The hike makes for a great challenge, and is totally worth the effort.
